Why did you make it?
After 10 years of living abroad, I returned to my hometown for a visit. While street art caught my attention, I’d forgotten about the underground typo-graffiti scene, which is an ongoing movement. We call it “Pixo”.

There are fewer and fewer contemporary movements that are truly local and capture the look and feel of a place. I am so bored by the 80ies Bronx style graffiti that is imitated everywhere, from Iceland to Mexico: You encapsulated the opposite perfectly: It would make a great logo for your city.
What's Pixo?
Pixo, also known as pixação (or pichação), is a unique and highly recognisable form of graffiti that originated in São Paulo, Brazil, during the late 1980s. This urban movement is characterised by its distinctive, cryptic lettering style, often written in bold, angular, and tall letters on the façades of buildings, overpasses, and other urban structures.
The origins of Pixo can be traced back to the socio-political environment of São Paulo in the 1980s, a period marked by economic hardship, political repression, and social inequality. The city was experiencing rapid urbanization, which led to the growth of sprawling favelas (informal settlements) and stark contrasts between the wealthy and the poor. This environment created a fertile ground for the emergence of Pixo as a form of social and political expression.
It is a testament to the resilience and creativity of those who use the city itself as their canvas, transforming the urban landscape into a platform for expression and resistance.
